Description
Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve Guided Hike Tour
It was founded in 1972 by George and Harriet Powell and is the best known forest in the Monteverde Zone.
The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve sits high on the continental divide in northwestern Costa Rica. In the highest parts, visitors can experience the force of the trade winds coming from the Atlantic coast. The varied climate and latitudinal levels help produce a vast biodiversity, creating abundant wildlife within the forest; just to mention a few are the jaguar, the black guan, the ocelot, the emerald toucan, the three-wattled bell umbrella bird, the bald bird, the blue-crowned motmot, the quetzal, hummingbirds and dozens of miles of insects.
Discover the magic of the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica.
The tour extends through nine different trails through the cloud forest. During your trip, the guide will explain about the flora and fauna of the ecosystem and you will learn the relationships that exist between the different species of animals and plants. Halfway through your journey, you will arrive at one of the highest points in the reserve, the “La Ventana” viewpoint. At this point you will appreciate a beautiful landscape made up of the continental divide of Costa Rica, feeling the strong humid winds towards the Central Pacific and the coastal plains of the north of the country.
During your walk you can also visit the Wilford Guindon Suspension Bridge, where you will have the opportunity to observe a large number of epiphytic plants, such as bromeliads, orchids, ferns, lianas and mosses. This bridge extends for more than 100 m, between the treetops, on your visit to the Monteverde Cloud Forest you will find different streams completely covered with crystal clear waters and giant trees that serve as home to many animals, the guide will show you some of the hidden secrets of the forest.
